Permanence panel in the profile card - #2244
Conversation
a draft for design review on the preview build, not for release. - the profile card's stats line gains "$x to store it today", from turbo's public /v1/rates price for 1 gb - tapping it opens "your permanence" in the standard modal: size, file and drive counts, upload years drawn as strata, spent and cost today, and the cost per year over ~200 years - "spent" is a sample figure until the signed /v1/account/payments history is wired - drive dao gains bytesByYearCreated for the strata Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

…ts line - spent comes from the signed turbo payment history: credits used at the wallet's average price per credit, gifts left out, card payments in other currencies converted with turbo's own rates. it shows "..." while it loads and "no top-ups found" when there is nothing to estimate from - "share my permanence" opens a 1200x630 card (size, years, strata, no dollar amounts) to download as an image, with text to copy - the profile card's stats lines are centred again, are hidden with no drives, hide the cost when nothing is stored, and recount every time the card opens rather than once per wallet; the price is fetched once Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…gure an account whose top-ups were all "credit grant via admin" read "no top-ups found": grants had no price, so there was nothing to estimate. - admin grants and zero-charge rows are grants, like gifts: their credits count as used, and nothing as spent. an all-grant account reads "$0 · 3 credit grants, nothing bought" - used credits are split between bought and granted in proportion - a history that could not be read now says so, apart from one that is empty - the console logs each row's kind, provider, currency and amount, to check the reading against real accounts Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
position already says how old a layer is, so colour now says how much: the biggest year is the reddest, a quiet year is faint but still shows. the caption says so. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
… are the size is a figure people may hold us to, so it is now counted strictly, and nothing in the panel reads as a promise or a receipt. - sizes count each piece of data once, only once its upload is confirmed, and leave out pinned files (drive dao permanentDataByYear) - the profile card's cost line uses that same figure, with the app's chevron in place of a glyph wavehaus does not have - "spent" is "estimated spend"; "cost today" is "at turbo's current price"; "stored for ~200 years" is "designed to be permanent" - a "how these numbers work" expander under the figures says what each is and is not, and links the terms of service - the share card and text promise no duration and show no dollars - sizes read to one decimal, in kb to tb; facts are separated by a bullet, which wavehaus draws mid-line - on a phone the two figures stack rather than break mid-word Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- share is the modal's own primary action, as in every standard modal, rather than an outline button inside the content - the strata caption is gone and the spacing is tighter, so the panel fits without scrolling - the strata run the full palette: the quietest year is white, the busiest the brand red, with a thin outline so a white band keeps its edge on a light ground - the figures sit on containerL1, a step off the modal's containerL3, so they show in both themes Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- the wallet's own mined, unbundled transactions are read a page at a time and their fees added up where they are ArDrive's (App-Name or ArFS tag). turbo uploads are bundled and excluded, so a turbo-only wallet costs one empty request - at most ten pages per open, only when the panel opens, and remembered on the device by wallet and block height: later opens ask only for newer blocks, and an unfinished count carries on next time and says "at least" - filtered by owner on the gateway and by app here: a tag filter made the ardrive.net indexer read 40 million rows and refuse - shown in AR, never added to the dollars: "+ 1.2345 AR paid directly", or the main figure when nothing was bought - the per-year line is gone; "stored to be permanent" is "stored permanently on Arweave" Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- an unfinished AR count whose cursor stopped working (gateway switched, cursor expired) failed on every open and said "at least" forever. it now remembers what it started from and begins that count again, counting nothing twice - a failed price fetch was kept for the session, so the cost line stayed away until a reload. it is now asked again on the next open - "N uploads" counted transactions, and a direct upload is two (metadata and data). the note now says "paid directly in AR" without a count - "≥" is not in wavehaus; an unfinished count says "at least" in words - the prototype log of payment history rows is gone: it put payment amounts into the support logs users export - a failed "download image" logs a warning instead of throwing Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
the card's stats line counted every file row - a copy twice, an upload that never landed, a pinned file somebody else paid for - so it said a bigger size than the panel it opens. both now use the panel's strict figure: each piece of data once, confirmed, not pinned, formatted the same way. - the card no longer reads drive content summaries - the fine print says cost today reads high for small files, which turbo uploads free Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…n the card the tally asked for `bundledIn: null` to leave out data items, but ar.io gateways (ardrive.net among them) ignore it: a Turbo user's count paged through every upload they had ever made, ten requests per open, and never finished. checked live: 100 of 100 rows came back bundled. - ask with `bundledIn: [""]`, which ar.io gateways do honour, and when that finds nothing ask once with the standard null; a gateway that answers null with transactions of their own is asked that way from then on. a Turbo-only wallet costs at most two requests - bundled rows are skipped on our side whatever the gateway does - the profile card says "your permanence" instead of a dollar figure, and shows whenever something is stored, price or not - the panel and share modals hide the scrollbar the modal's scroll view drew over the content; they still scroll on a short screen Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
counts saved before data items were left out carry a cursor and a height from a different query; resuming from them could skip or recount. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

from CodeRabbit on #2244: getPaymentHistory stopped at ten pages without saying so, and the estimate set those rows against the whole balance - low, or $0, shown as if it were right. the page cap stays, so the panel never pages without end, but the history now says whether it is complete. when it is not, the tile shows no figure: "more top-ups than we can count here". Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…and dollars "cost today" was turbo's card price per gb - about 55% over what the arweave network itself charges - labelled "at turbo's current price", so it read as our price, and a high one. - it is now the network's price for the exact size, from the configured gateway's /price, in AR, shown in dollars at AR's current price (turbo's public /v1/rates/usd), with the AR beneath: "the network's price to store it" - without a dollar rate it shows the AR alone; without the network it says it couldn't reach it - the fine print says it is the network's charge, moving with the network and the market, and not a bill or a quote; the turbo free-tier caveat no longer applies and is gone - the card fetches no prices at all: everything is asked for when the panel opens Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
the dollar estimate rested on assumptions - cents, currency conversion, splitting grants from purchases - and set "you paid about $x" beside what storage costs today, which invites a comparison neither figure supports. - spent is now turbo credits used (everything credited, bought or granted, minus what is left), exact, with the AR paid directly beneath it. it mirrors cost today: dollars with the AR they come from - the estimate, the currency conversion, the cents assumption, the grant/purchase split and the turbo rates fetch are all gone - the fine print says credits used also count ArNS names and credits shared with other wallets Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

…spend from CodeRabbit on #2244: the balance read was turbo's effectiveBalance, which includes credits other wallets have shared with this one. they came with no top-up row, so credited minus that balance came out low, or zero. credits used now subtract controlledWinc - the wallet's own credits, including any it has shared that are not spent yet. shared-in credits no longer lower the figure, and shared-out credits another wallet has spent count as gone, as the fine print says. the turbo sdk documents both fields. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…e of which of a wallet's paid transactions are ArDrive storage was decided by tags alone - ArFS, or an App-Name from a list - and the data transaction of a direct upload, the costly part, carries no ArFS tag: a renamed or forgotten App-Name would drop it without a word. - a transaction now counts first if sync recorded it as part of one of the wallet's own drives: file revisions' metadata, data and bundles, folder and drive revisions' metadata, drive bundles (drive dao arDriveTransactionIds). tags remain as the fallback for what has not synced yet - the same drives the size counts, known the way sync knows them - the fee query returns each transaction's id; no extra requests - counts made under the old rule start afresh (storage key v3) Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01JJZWyPuMzMfo8vzKDxHCTV

from CodeRabbit on #2244: a count that ran before a drive finished syncing could pass an untagged direct-upload transaction - not yet known to be ArDrive's - and move on past its block, so its fee was never counted. - each count remembers the paid transactions it left out, by id and fee, and the next count looks at them again first, against what sync knows by then. no request is made again for them - counted once, then forgotten; another app's stay left out - at most 5,000 remembered, the most recent kept Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01JJZWyPuMzMfo8vzKDxHCTV

from a look on an iphone: one big year (16 GB in 2023) left every other
year the same near-white, and the panel ran past the screen with nothing
to say it scrolled.
- strata colour by volume on a log scale: years apart by orders of
magnitude now each get their own shade, white to brand red
- the two figures stay side by side on a phone, notes wrapping by the
word; only a screen under 280px stacks them. the whole panel fits
- AR to two places from one AR up ("343.40 AR"), as the credits are;
below one, up to four without trailing zeros
- "the network's price to store it" is "Network price to store it",
matching "Turbo credits used"

the profile card closes as it opens the permanence panel, so the context the panel was opened with is gone by the time share is pressed. on the web the press threw a null check error and nothing opened. the panel now holds the navigator from when it opened, and opens the share card from the navigator's own context. - sizes say KiB, MiB, GiB and TiB, as the rest of the app does for the
same 1024-based arithmetic; the card and panel said GB beside a drives
list that said GiB
- the profile card's line uses the panel's bullet and thousands
separators ("21 drives • 1,776 files • 24.9 GiB"); its middle dots
read as full stops in the brand font
- the year chart grows past six years and never draws a band past its
top, so a long history keeps every year and its label
- the year chart describes itself to screen readers
- copy text and download image leave the share card open and say when
they are done; download is disabled while it saves

Two small years together, such as 2025 and 2026 beside a 16 GiB 2023, put their labels on top of each other, in the panel and on the share card. Each label still sits by its band's middle, moved only as far as it takes to keep a line between them and inside the chart. … tips - size counts every version of each file, from the revisions rather than the files, each piece of data once; a file's earlier versions are stored and were paid for as much as its newest - each piece of data is dated by the first revision that carried it, so a file made in 2021 and replaced in 2024 puts the new version in 2024, not 2021 - the file count is the files with at least one version stored (DriveDao.permanentFileCount), so a copy is two files though its data counts once - AR paid directly adds the tip direct uploads sent ArDrive's community, carried as the transaction's own transfer and tagged Tip-Type; the stored tally moves to v4 so earlier counts are made again - the fine print says what each figure counts, opening each point with the figure's name: every version, hidden drives and pinned files left out, network fees and tips, why spent is not in dollars, that cost today is not ArDrive's or Turbo's price, and the 200 years as Arweave's claim Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01Y4dehHVpH2fFgzitCz1yJ6
…ompt Measured on 200,000 file revisions (natively; the web is slower): - the profile card counted every revision each time it opened (650 ms). It now keeps its figures while DriveDao.permanentDataVersion, a 0.8 ms check, says nothing they depend on has changed: a revision written, an upload landing or failing - opening the panel read out every transaction the drives are made of (401,000 ids, 1.5 s) to classify at most a thousand. The AR count now asks only about transactions its tags leave open, and the ones an earlier count set aside, a batch at a time (about 100 ms for a page, and nothing at all for ArDrive's own tagged uploads) - reading Turbo credits takes a signature. A keyfile, or the wallet an Ethereum or Solana sign-in derives, signs silently; a browser extension prompts its owner. For an extension wallet the Spent tile now offers "Show credits used" instead of prompting as the panel opens Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01Y4dehHVpH2fFgzitCz1yJ6

Permanence panel in the profile card
Profile card: under the drive count, file count and size line, a centred link: "Your permanence ›". It appears whenever the wallet stores anything, and has no figure of its own.
Tapping it opens Your permanence in the standard modal:
Where each number comes from
Size and strata come from the file revisions of the wallet's own synced, unhidden drives (
DriveDao.permanentDataByYear): every version, each piece of data once, only once its upload is confirmed, with no pinned files. Each piece is dated by the first revision that carried it, so a replaced file's new version lands in the year it was uploaded. Snapshots and drive state artifacts both carry every revision, so this counts the same however a drive synced.Files are the files with at least one version stored (
DriveDao.permanentFileCount): a copy is two files, though its data counts once. The card's stats line uses the same figures, so the card and panel always agree.
Credits used = every top-up credited, bought or granted, minus the wallet's own credits (
controlledWinc). Credits shared to the wallet are left out. The top-ups come from the signedGET /v1/account/payments, capped at 10 pages; a history longer than that shows no figure rather than a wrong one.AR paid directly = the fees on the wallet's own unbundled transactions that are ArDrive's, plus the tip a direct upload sent ArDrive's community (the transaction's own transfer, counted only when tagged
Tip-Type; seearDrivePayment). A transaction is ArDrive's if:DriveDao.arDriveTransactionsAmong, asked only about transactions the tags below leave open), orArFStag, orHow the count works:
bundledIn: null, so the query asks with[""]and falls back tonull.Cost today is the configured gateway's network
/pricefor the exact size, priced in dollars with Turbo's publicGET /v1/rates/usd. It deliberately does not use Turbo's own price per GB, which includes Turbo's margin and read as our price. What it costs to collect
Measured natively on 200,000 file revisions (100,000 files in 20 drives); the web runs these slower.
DriveDao.permanentDataVersion(0.8 ms) is unchanged/price, Turbo/v1/rates/usdReading the Turbo history takes a signature. A keyfile, or the wallet an Ethereum or Solana sign-in derives, signs silently. A browser extension (Wander, ArConnect) prompts, so for those wallets the Spent tile offers Show credits used rather than prompting as the panel opens.
Credits shared from a sign-in wallet to its derived wallet (2.88.1) are spent by the derived wallet but appear in neither wallet's history as Spent reads it. Counting them would take a MetaMask or Phantom signature, so for Ethereum and Solana sign-ins the fine print adds one line instead: "Credits shared from your Ethereum wallet aren't counted." (or Solana). Keyfile and extension users don't see it.
